Katharine began teaching over 20 years ago in 1998, and has loved it ever since! "There are 4 foundational principles to my teaching," Katharine says. "Create a safe space in which to learn, know your subject matter, communicate clearly, and be encouraging! Those principles are key to my teaching success, and key to my students' musical success. We succeed together."

In her two-plus decades of teaching, Katharine has taught a wide range of ages: from 2-and-a-half to senior citizens. Her current studio meets her family-oriented community's needs by providing outstanding music education to school-age students aged 5 to 19.

Katharine loves helping students achieve their diverse goals. In the past, some highlights have included helping students:

- win a nationally televised singing competition (YTV's The Next Star: Making the Band);

- win a music label recording contract (with 21 Entertainment Group);

- release original albums for streaming platforms/ websites independently;

- gain admission to various university voice and piano programs (classical and jazz), including at the University of Toronto and York University;

- gain admission to prestigious arts high schools, including Etobicoke School of the Arts, Cardinal Carter Academy, and Father John Redmond School of the Arts (Toronto);

- gain admission offers to Toronto's prestigious St. Michael's Choir School; and

- receive high marks in many RCM music examinations (piano, singing, theory, and harmony).

It's important to Katharine that music lessons serve as a positive force in a student's life and function as something to look forward to!

Katharine holds an MA and an Hon. BA from the University of Toronto, as well as two ARCT diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), in Singing Performance and Piano Performance. During her last year in Toronto, before relocating to Manitoba, she acted as a judge for the Young Inspirations: Shine Your Talent singing competition. She has performed opera and sung in concerts in Canada and Europe, and currently focuses on teaching and parenting her two small children.
